Thread Art
Half Day Workshop (3-4 hrs)
An introductory course appropriate for any quilter wanting to explore machine sewing with the feed dogs down. This is a 1/2 day workshop where the students will explore free-motion embroidery techniques and the use of decorative thread. Students will experiment with the techniques on fabric that has some type of large floral print, animal prints, or a fabric panel.  A recently tuned machine (with decorative stitches and the ability to raise and lower feed dogs) is required. The student must be comfortable using the machine. A free motion foot, a variety of threads, and a quilt sandwich of any floral print, animal print, or panel is required for class.  (Fabric sandwich can be purchased from instructor)

Portrait Quilt Wall Hanging

Full Day (5-6 hrs)
Using raw edge appliqué, students will create a portrait quilt featuring a lady (four patterns to choose from).  Students will learn how to select fabrics, how to design a pattern from photo’s, how to create facial features correctly, and how to use markers, pastels, and/or colored pencils to enhance their work for realism. Students will leave with a finished portrait.  Kits are available for $15.00. (kit includes all supplies except scissors, quilting pins, foam core, iron, and tweezers)
Student Supplies:
A fat quarter for background of picture
Fabric scraps for clothes, hair, eyes, body parts (depict the persons skin tone), and lips.
1 package of steam of seam 2 lite, or fusible web product of your choice.
Black Sharpie permanent marker
Parchment paper (or tracing paper), ink pen, scissors, quilting pins, a foam core board (small), iron (appliqué), and tweezers.
No sewing machine required. 

Masks

One/or two day workshop
Use up those extra scraps from previous projects! Students make scrappy masks from patterns provided.  Students then combine these beautiful masks into blocks to make a wonderfully fun and colorful quilt.  Blocks will be different sizes, so techniques for fitting them together are
demonstrated. Embellishments are also discussed. This workshop teaches students to be random in their fabric choices and allows them to use up the many extra scraps they may have accumulated.

Making Memory Quilts
½ day to 2 day workshop
With newly introduced techniques for applying photographs to fabric, quilters can create family heirlooms. Students will bring their favorite family photographs to class.  This class teaches students how to transfer photo’s to fabric using a variety of photo transfer techniques.  Then the students will learn techniques for combining photos with several quilting methods to create a memory quilt they will cherish. A lap fee of $18.00 is required

Lecture and Trunk Show
Lola Jenkins is the creator of one-of-a-kind pictorial quilts.  Her specialty, for which she is renowned, is fabric portraits which feature meticulous details involving hours of work.  Lola’s lecture and trunk show feature many of her quilts and their stories.  While displaying her quilts she gives sources of her inspiration, types of fabrics to choose when creating artful quilts and a broad overview of her techniques, method of quilt top construction and whole cloth techniques.  In addition she provides a wealth of encouragement for those who wish to enter the business side of quilting.
